Poetry Update

Description: 
In troys writing group we have been working on poetry. We have been working on Free Verse and Cinquans. I did my too pets, Bella and Gonzo. Troy made a google slide and said. ' Your task is to write some poetry that you have done but no more then three.Here is the final pice:

Evaluation:
I think that I did a good job in my poetry because this was the first time doing poetry and I the in I have done a fabulous job with this. I agree with aye that maybe I should find more juicer words to go into there so that they hook the reader even more!

Inquiry Blog Post

Description:
Every thursday we go to troys inquiry group. Our task was to plan, and decorate the Graduation 2015. I chose graduation because 1 I love decorating, and 2 I found so much fun. I'm benefiting the future by making a day for the year 6's to celebrate there last day at Russell Street School. Emma and I have been panting the Jenga white for graduation and then you are writing memories on them like Emma and I made a tester and says, Emma and Sophie 2015. 

Reflection: 

What did I accomplish
accomplished making the amazing 2015 sign, also Emma and I had finished the wonderful jenga blocks so that all the year 6 can write their special memories at Russell Street School.

What made me chose this inquiry?
I chose this inquiry because; 1 I love decorating and 2 It was so much fun last year (But this year was different). And 3 The taster was a lot of fun!


What did you think was going to be easy but took longer than you thought? The amazing 2015 sign, because we had to put all the crape paper in, and then we had to put some poles through it, and the teacher started bleeding when he was cutting the poles! Also it was the wonderful jenga blocks because it took along time to do the paint and then dry for the next layer!

Free Verse Poetry

Description:
In Troys writing group we have been working on free verse writing. Can you figure out what it is about. Here it is

Hustle, Bustle


It was time, 
"Phew" and we're off...
The first time in the air,
I could hear the noise of the jet engine roaring through the sky.

Rumble, Rumble

We are going down, we're swaying in the air like a plastic bag in the wind.
"Bang!" 
We have landed.
We grab our bags and leave the airport.

Clip Clop, Clip Clp


When we were at the beach I saw a blue starfish, 
It felt all slimy and bumpy.


Ripple Ripple

All my hair was braided also my friend sam did the Samantha does it to.
Once Mum took a photo I saw what amazing job the ladies did.


Clatter, Clatter.


Once my brother goes into the water I could taste the salty water. 
Oh No Jack is drowning! 
So mum jumps in to save him. 
I could feel the splashes.


Ripple Ripple

Mum has saved the day! 

What a great time at Fiji.

Poetry

Description: 
Today we have been working on poetry for writing our task was to do free style. We had to think of a memory that we had experience before. I chose Movie world because I had just been there. And I had a great time on all the rides. Here is my writing: 

On a Boiling Hot day
we went onto a tall tower. That had a batman top. We went in. I could smell the fear

Next we went to the log ride we went went down backwards. I am right at the back scared like a turtle meeting a human for the first time

Then we went forwards I could hear people in front of me soaking their fears.

A Sign Of A Warrior

Before next tuesday, read Chapter 3-6 and answer the following questions on your blog...
  • What do you think about Ash’s first impressions of Africa?  Why do you think he says, “Dad, everything’s weird?”  (p.23)

I think the first impressions were really cool with the smelly rocks and all of that. I think he says that because he as never been there before and probably doesn't know there language, and they also have different types of clothes.

Who is the author targeting with this humour: “I put a pair of socks at the top of my pack.  I’d worn them at gym class for a week and road tested them on Gran.  She nearly passed out and said a word I’d get grounded for saying when she opened my pack to check that I had my comb”? (p. 26) Give reasons for your opinion.

  • Do you think Ash’s comments about coming “face to face with a bunch of cannibals” (p.27) are appropriate or offensive? What helped you form your opinion?
I think ash will be okay its just that is dad can't go "oh he's pinned down by a lion" So he will have to learn to stay safe with is spear.

  • Do you think the government should stop lions being killed for ceremonial purposes? (p.35) What is your stance on this issue? 

I think that they should stop hunting the lions because you don't want them extended like the bail tigers. I f you don't know what the bail tigers are its because everyone hunted them in the old days. So in the future when they are all gone no one will see them.

Today for Discovery Time  I did drawled a picture of an owl. I showed Creativity by doing more little u's on the belly because it looks better. I showed agency by stoping the video because some times they did it faster. I showed excellence by thinking that next time when I come back to this i will do a background. Next week I will keep going with this.

Book Bash Prediction 2015

Cover Design
When I first looked at this cover I wanted read it because of the man with a weapon. Once I looked at the lion, I thought it was going to be about him. On the cover where the animals are I thought how hard would it to hunt a lion and a spider?


Blurb
The first sentence I read started to hook me into the book even more then the cover because it said, “Suddenly I hear A roar behind me.” I think this blurb was very good at hooking me in more to it.


Title
I think that the author has a great title because you can already tell that there's a warrior. I think that there fount looked good against the picture.

Prediction
I predict that the this is a real life story. And the lion tries to capture the human to eat him and take him to his pack. Also I think that the warrior tries to hunt down all the animals in africa because it looks like it has taken place in africa

Passion Project Reflection

Description: 
Every Thursday 2-3 we have been doing Passion Projects, Passion Projects is when you get something you in joy and you turn it into a project. So I choose baking. My group for this was Abby, Olivia F, and Devin. Our parent helper was Debby

Big Idea:
Our task was to make 300 cupcakes for this years SPCA Cupcake day. We Raised $840! We baked mini's normal sized and Texas ones (The big Ones!) People brought in donations, food and blankets. We made 300 cupcakes! Some people overfed to bring some cupcakes to help go towards the SPCA. We got round about 1200 cupcakes altogether at the end. 

Feedback & Feedforward:
I think you did well in choosing your passion project and that you were committed to your passion project, You can work on making sure you are doing baking at home all the time.

Evaluation:
Next Time I think we should hand out the notice first and then count up all the cupcakes we have and then we could top it up. I am so happy that we raised 840 cupcakes!! I am feeling happy that I got to do this because I love baking and also eating the cupcake is good too! YUM YUM!! My Goal at home when I am baking is to start to make cakes and other things not just cupcakes.

In literacy we have to do 3 tic tac toes. If you don't know what tic tac toes are, well they are literacy activities If they are color in green they are a must does. And the ones in white are you can choose.  This term (Term 3) my goal has been Questioning. I think I am improving on this goal by doing these activates.  Here is my working.

Te Reo Sample

Description:
This term we have been focusing on Maori body parts.In this activity I have been working with Georgia and Hannah. We got to chose between a poster or some sort of movie to show the Maori body parts. I choose to do a poster. we had to talk together to say what our audience was going to be, the choose was between, teenagers, adults, 5 year olds also teachers. My group choose 5 year olds.

Big Idea:
Our task was some how to teach the 5 year olds the Maori body parts. Before this happened we had to draw a person and then look up the Maori body parts like head arm and leg. the week after that is when we learn't a song called: To Ringa ki roto in English it is called hokey pokey.
   
Feedback & Feedforward
I like how  you made it appropriate for your audience and making there be pitcher for them to understand what the body parts are. Next time you could work on making it not a poster because if the can't read the word the won't know what is it but when you do a video you say it to them and they know what it means and what body part it is. Overall it was a good quality piece of work. Good good. Emma M.    

Evaluation:
I am proud that my group did made the pictures pop out because then the little kids won't go like, oh that looks boring. And then when you make it fun it will be easy a to learn from.  Next time I think I could do a video to make it even more fun and also get out of my comfort zone.

Maths Challenge

Description:
During class time today (02/09/2015) we had our workshop. We are focusing on time tables and divided byes. My teacher for maths is Elly. Every week we take two workshops and we are allowed to have 1-2 times tables workshops, I just need to pass my 8's in three seconds and then i'm ON A ROLL!!

I think that Sophie is a great leaner and is good and maths. I think that she could work on divided byes but apart from that is all good:) Katie!

Evaluation:
I know I know my times tables because Dad said you don't need to work on them you need to start focusing on divided byes now. I think I am good at this strategy I just need to practice it more to get to use it more.

Wearable Arts Sample

Description:
In class every friday we are making our wearable arts. I am in Kate's group, which our topic is out of africa. When we first started we made mood boards before we new what to do. We had three choses of groups, Out Of Africa, Villains And Heros, also Elements. I couldn't be able to chose because I was not there. But I would of done this for my 1st chose. This is my plan for my garment & mood board.




Big Idea:
My animal is a cheetah and my garment, this is what I am going to do: I am going to have a rugby ball and a rugby top to show strength and speed for the cheetah then for the tail and mask shows the face and the pattern. We are doing this for our production for 2015.

What I Have Done And What I Have To Work On:
I Have done 3 layers for my rugby ball so I need to do one more layer then I can start painting it. Once I have finished my 4th layer I am going to do my 2nd layer for my cheetah mask. At home I am working on a rugby top. It will have a cheetah patterned number. (14) Me and Emma are a cheetah so we both did a mask. Here is my Cheetah mask. 

Production Update:
1) The materials that I used to create my garment were:
Paint, Stuffing, An not stuffed tail, White top, newspaper, white paper, paper mash a glue, Cheetah print material.

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was:
The painting because when you had to put something on top of the paint it will still be wet, so then you have to wait till the next day.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was:
The rugby ball because it was hard to get the right shape.
 
4) Something I am really proud of about production was:
My top because that took the longest and turned out really good once I put the numbers on.
5) Our school vision is to create agency, creativity and excellence. I showed this by:

I showed agency by: Stuffing the tail because it took 3 weeks just to do that.
I also showed creativity by: Painting my top because with the 14 I did a cheetah pattern.

 I have also showed excellence by: I think my mask because cheetahs also have white and black on some spots, so Emma and I decided to put it on under the eyes.

Tic Tac Toe Week 5

Description:
Our task was to write as many different things/situations that would cause me say what in the world is that!? This tic tac toe was really cool the favorite one I did was a flying pig because that would be wow just to see a actual FLYING PIG!!

Big Idea:
For this week tic tac toe I did ridiculousness for this tic tac toe. I have chosen this tic tac toe because it sound very interesting. My goal has been questioning because I don't do a lot of questioning when I read.

You came up with funny ridiculous things for your tic tac toe. Maybe you could try do twenty ridiculous things that you could think of. Taylor

Writing Sample Shark Attack

Description: 
My goal is sentences with troy. I have chosen this goal because I mostly use long sentences. I am getting better bye doing this by doing it a bit more interesting so I can get the reader even more hooked on it.


 Big Idea:
In Troys writing group we looked at a picture of a heard of fish. My writing is about a shark trying to kidnap all the fish so they can have all the fish in the world. My hero is a dolphin called shinny, plus dolphins kick sharks but.

I think you did well using humor to hook the reader in to reading your story, you also did well in making sure your using the correct puncuation.

Tic Tac Toe Interfiew

Description: 
In reading my goal has been to focus on Questioning. I have chosen this goal because I would come across points in the story I would not think of a question when I would not know what is happening. Now I think I am improving on this by going to workshops and doing some more reading and tic tac toes. This tic tac toe for this post was an interview.


Big Idea:
In class every week we have to do up to 3 tic tac toes. This tic tac toe we had to do an interview of who we look up to.  The person I have been looking up to is Grace Rasmussen from the silver ferns. If you do 10  questions your a Novice and If you do 20 your an Expert. In Questionin I have learnt to question before, during and after reading.

Evaluation:
I think I could do better by doing better questions and make it up to 20. So then I can get lots of ideas to be like her when I do netball. But I think I know I will be a good player. But if I don't make it into the silver ferns I know I am still a good player.

Feedback & Feedforward:
Wow Sophie. You seem to be really inspired about this character. I would've liked it if you have done at least 10 questions so you can really think deeply about her experience. One question, if this interview was real, would that give you a more deeper aspect of how you would become a netball player? Great job by the way.

ET Reo Post

Description:
What is ET Reo?
Well the answer to that is ET Reo is when you learn maori. ET stands for Elly and Troy they are the teachers that teach us maori.
 Is there other choses? 
Well, we got to chose to do Kapa Haka or ET Reo. I chose ET Reo. 
What do you learn in ET Reo? 
In ET Reo we learn songs and fruits vegetables etc.

  Big Idea:
The Big Idea in ET Reo was to finish a movie of saying what you like and dislike. My partner for this activity was Georgia. 


Evaluation:
What will I like to work on and what did I do well?
Well, next time I will like to learn it of by heart because I want to know it more. So when someone says how do you say such and such, then I can say it quickly. I think I did well by the pronouncing. Next time I would differently would be to do it in person not behind the sense. So I would chose to do it on camera, so the crowd can see me saying it in person. Also next time I will like to work on putting the mushrooms at the right time, because on one of our drafts we put it at the wrong time. So then we had to go back and do it again. 


Feedback & Feedforward:
Great job Sophie! I love the way you have gone above and beyond (you have added depth and detail into your movie). I also loved that you added the foods so that the visual leaners no what food you where talking about. Maybe next time you could just make sure that you pronounce some of the words right.  Great Job, your movie is AMAZING.

Writing Portfolio

Description:

My goal in writing has been connectives.  Connectives are when you but two sentences together. I have chosen this goal in writing. We had to chose one goal to work on the most, there were sentences, words and ideas. In my writing I am trying to get better at connectives by looking at some words to make the sentences together. I have got better at this by looking at the boxes of connectives to but in between. The words in red are the connectives & conjunctions.




Big Idea
Evaluation: 
In my writing I think I need to use a few more connectives in my writing. So then I will have a lot of them, so then I can chose another goal I could work on.

Chimps drink alcohol!

Description:
The chimps used drinking tools called leaf sponges – handfuls of leaves that they chew and crush into absorbent sponges, dip into the liquid and suck out the contents.

Maths Portfolio

Description:
In maths we have been learning to use the most effective strategy for each problem. I have use'n place value, partitioning, reversibility and spilt strategy. I am at stage 6. In stage 6 we had to use 2 effective strategies for each question.


Working Out:
Big Idea:
I have been working on the spilt strategy. This is how you do it. For an example 567+371
first you do is spilt the numbers apart
second you add them together like this 500+300=800 and so you keep doing that over and over till you have done the numbers in your question.  

Evaluation:
Next time I will like to do more of partitioning because I don't use that much often like the spilt strategy. I think I did well on getting the questions correct. 

Feedback & Feedforward: You have done a lot of different strategies. I think you could have try at Rounding and Compensating. Also you could label your questions to what examples you did.


Inquiry Presentation

Description:
In Poutama we have been going to 3 different teachers to do an inquiry. I chose Ebony's one because I wanted to know more about animals. I have chosen reindeers. My question was what is reindeers population, and what are there predators.

Next time I will want to know more about another predator that is extinct or endangered so I could try safe them. In my presentation I think I have learnt a lot of them.

Reading Portfolio

Description:
This week we have had a deadline we need to finish. The deadline was to find a tick-tac-toe do for our Reading Portfolio. This deadline had to be finished by this friday the 5th of June. We had to chose 1 activity from the tic-tac-toe I have chosen what's a prefix. My Goal during Literacy is Expand Vocabulary. I am getting better at my goal because I have learnt more words. Here is my tic-tac-toe I have chosen. 


Tri stands for three like for an example, Triathlon it has three  sports in it, so everything that starts with tri has three meanings. These are the ones that do have three meanings.

Big Idea:
My tic-tac-toe was what is a prefix. Our task was to find words that started with tri. I found out words from the Dictionary and what I all ready new. Next time I need to work on making sure the word is spelt correctly and if it is real or not.

Evaluation:
What I need to work on is find out new words from the dictionary or ask a friend that I could use it in my writing I don't all ready know. I need to work on synonyms in my reading because I don't use that one much as re-read & read on.

Great work Sophie.
It is pretty difficult to come up with all those words by yourself. Maybe next time you could add words that you actually know their meaning instead of making up words you think are real. Well done though :D Aye

Writing Task Conjunctions

Description:
We have had to make 7 sentences with a conjunction in it. My 7 sentences are about a little girl with her mum at the pet shop looking for a pet. Here are my 7 sentences I have made and the photo. ( In the photo are green box’s with a word in it they are when you don’t use a lot, like the blue box’s, they are what you will use more than the green ones.


Bella went out to pat the dog but before she new it the dog bite her.

Bella ran to her mum while she was in pain.

Bella said to her mum a dog bite her so that the dog would get a smack.

Her mum walked up to the dog since the dog was in a bad mode.

The dog struck in fear as though the dog had learnt a lesson.

They had a walk because they wanted to get there mind of things.


Bella opened the door while dad had just arrived for lunch.

We had to put ing words at the start off 2 sentences. Here are my 2 sentences I have been working on.

Catch Me If You Can- Defense

Description:
Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the thing I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.


Body:
WALT: Defensive skills and movements
Success Criteria:
Body Movement
  • Weight on balls of feet
  • Feet shoulder width apart
  • Knees flexed
  • Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
  • Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
